Chief Legal Officer, Highmark Health
Carolyn Duronio joined Highmark Health as General Counsel in 2020. She previously spent 35 years as a Partner at Reed Smith LLP in Pittsburgh, where she held many leadership roles, including Managing Partner of the Pittsburgh and Harrisburg offices and Corporate Secretary for the firm. Carolyn has served on the boards of the Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh, The Children's Institute, and Family Services of Western Pennsylvania, among many others.
At a recent diversity roundtable hosted by her then-firm, Carolyn spoke about the importance of inclusion: “A lot of people assume once they have a diversity group at their company, the problems are done and fixed. It’s important to make sure those in management understand that it has not been solved. There may not be intentional discrimination, but unintentional exclusion is still exclusion.”
As part of LCLD's Leaders at the Front initiative, Carolyn created a Leader's Pledge detailing her personal and organizational commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Read Carolyn's pledge here.
Diversity initiatives at Highmark Health include a commitment to the Rooney Rule when hiring, educating the workforce about diversity, and several business resource groups. The company has been named a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality and a Best Place to Work for People with Disabilities.
