Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary, Synchrony Financial
Jonathan Mothner joined Synchrony Financial in 2014 and oversaw its initial public offering that year. Prior to Synchrony's separation from GE in 2015, he was General Counsel for GE's North American retail finance business, and served as Chief Litigation Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for GE's global consumer finance business. Before joining GE, Jonathan was an Assistant US Attorney in the Eastern District of New York and spent time as a law firm associate in Tokyo. He also serves on the Board of the Pro Bono Partnership.
As of 2020, Synchrony Financial had one of the most diverse boards of directors of any financial services company or commercial bank in the Fortune 200, with four women, four minorities, and two veterans on its 12-person board. Forty-five percent of its employees are non-White and 63 percent are female. In January 2020, the company launched an initiative called Advancing Diverse Talent, which uses data and analytics to help identify diverse talent gaps.
