Kermitt Brooks joined Guardian Life in 2020 after spending 10 years at AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company (where he was also an LCLD Member). Kermitt also served as First Deputy Superintendent and Acting Superintendent for the New York State Insurance Department, and Deputy Attorney General for Operations at the New York State Office of Attorney General. Kermitt is also committed to mentoring: “When I was coming up, there weren’t a lot of role models outside of my family,” he said in an interview. “I think it’s important to give that to young black kids. They need to see someone who is ahead of them. That’s the key to success.”
In 2020, Guardian Life was designated a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign for the fourth consecutive year. Guardian Life was also one of the first companies to sign the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion Pledge, a commitment to create inclusive work environments across corporate America. The company also has a robust supplier diversity program that includes minority-, women-, veteran-, and LGBTQ-owned businesses.
