Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, and Corporate Secretary, Duke Energy
Kodwo Ghartey-Tagoe became Chief Legal Officer of Duke Energy in 2019. He joined the company in 2002 and held various leadership positions, including General Counsel for Litigation and President of Duke Energy's utility operations in South Carolina. Prior to joining Duke Energy, Kodwo was a Partner at McGuireWoods. Kodwo is a native of Ghana, has served on the Board of Visitors of Virginia State University, one of the nation's most venerated historically black institutions of higher learning, and received the Thurgood Marshall College Fund's Award of Excellence for dedication to diversity in the workplace. In 2021, Business North Carolina Magazine included Kodwo on its first list of power brokers from historically underserved communities and in 2013, he received the Charlotte Business Journal’s Diversity Champion Award.

Duke Energy supports diversity and inclusion with its diversity councils and employee resource groups. In 2018, Forbes named the company a Best Employer for Diversity. Duke Energy also funds scholarships for North Carolina students from underrepresented populations who want to pursue STEM degrees.
