Executive Vice President & General Counsel, Major League Baseball

Lara Pitaro Wisch is Executive Vice President & General Counsel of Major League Baseball. When she assumed this post in July 2019, she became the first female General Counsel in the league’s history. In this role, Lara leads Major League Baseball’s Legal Business Department, overseeing the team of lawyers and legal professionals supporting MLB’s and its Clubs’ business units. She joined Major League Baseball in 2004, most recently serving as Senior Vice President & General Counsel of MLB Advanced Media, the digital arm of Major League Baseball. Immediately prior to joining MLB, she was an associate with the law firm of Vinson & Elkins.

During her time at MLB, Lara has emphasized the importance of transparency, collaboration, and inclusion within her team and across the organization, with her first step as General Counsel being to unify the structure of the Legal Business Department to create cohesion and additional opportunities for development. In 2018, she was recognized as a Sports Business Journal Game Changer, which identifies women serving as leaders and impacting the business of sports.  She currently serves as the Executive Sponsor of the MLB Women Employee Resource Group and is committed to ensuring that all voices are represented, encouraged and heard across the organization.

As part of LCLD’s Leaders at the Front initiative, Lara created a Leader’s Pledge detailing her personal and organizational commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.  Read Lara’s pledge here.
