R. Hewitt Pate is the former assistant attorney general for the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice. Today he is the chief legal officer for a company that received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index and won the 2012 Diversity Leader Award for communication of diversity best practices. The company also has a University Partnership Program that provides funding for international and minority students. Chevron notes that it was the “first major energy company to include sexual orientation in its nondiscriminatory polices and offer domestic partner benefits to [its] employees.”
