Chief Legal Officer and Head of Corporate Affairs, Workday, Inc. 

Rich Sauer joined Workday as General Counsel in 2019. Previously, he spent 20 years at Microsoft, where his roles included leading a legal and government affairs team based in Singapore, leading Microsoft's regulatory affairs team, and providing legal support for the company's artificial intelligence and research division. Rich believes that great legal departments are more than just advisors on the law, "but a source...of bold and innovative ideas that advance the organization’s objectives, take things in a new direction, or offer ways to do things differently with greater impact." He also serves on the Board of the Center for Children & Youth Justice in Seattle. 

As part of LCLD's Leaders at the Front initiative, Rich created a Leader's Pledge detailing his personal and organizational commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Read Rich's pledge here

Workday was named a Fortune Best Place to Work for Diversity in 2018. The company's diversity initiatives include Employee Belonging Councils and a Career Accelerator Program. In 2016, Workday signed the White House Equal Pay Pledge, a companywide commitment to pursuing gender pay equity. Workday also designs diversity dashboards to help organizations track internal diversity metrics.
