Ben Hattenbach joined Irell & Manella in 1995 and now serves on the firm's Executive Committee. He has been named one of the top 75 intellectual property litigators in California for seven consecutive years. Ben also served on the planning committees for the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology's Advanced Patent Law Institute and the University of Southern California Law School's Intellectual Property Institute.
Irell's commitment to diversity has a long history—the firm had one of the first African American equity partners of any major law firm in Los Angeles and one of the nation's first Asian American managing partners. In 2018, Irell & Manella was ranked fourth out of 220 large firms for its percentage of minority partners. The firm also has a diversity scholarship and various efforts to engage female attorneys.
