Mala Harker began practicing at Friedman Kaplan in 2003 and became Partner in 2008, but left the firm in 2011 to serve as Assistant US Attorney for the District of New Jersey. As DA, she investigated and prosecuted cases involving sophisticated financial frauds, insider trading, public corruption, violent crime, and drug offenses, among others. Mala returned to Friedman Kaplan in 2017 and now serves on the firm's Management Committee.

As part of LCLD's Leaders at the Front initiative, Mala created a Leader's Pledge detailing her personal and organizational commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Read Mala's pledge here

Mala is an active member of the National Association of Women Lawyers and the Legal Network for Gender Equity, and serves on the Board of Trustees of Volunteer Lawyers for Justice, an organization that provides tools, advice, and pro bono representation to the economically-disadvantaged in New Jersey. In 2021, Mala and her husband created a scholarship for diverse students at Fairmont State University.
