Marshall Redmon joined Phelps Dunbar in 1987 and became Managing Partner in 2016. He also practices in the firm's Insurance and Reinsurance Group and serves on the firm's Policy and Planning Committee. Phelps Dunbar has consistently been recognized for minority hiring and has received other recognition for diversity from the Defense Research Institute, MultiCultural Law magazine, and others. The firm lists participation in LCLD as an important part of its diversity efforts. In 2019, Phelps Dunbar had the highest percentage of African American partners among firms of its size.
