Please join us on Thursday, March 8, 2018, for a conversation with Michael Holston, General Counsel of Merck & Co., Inc., and Gregory Jordan, General Counsel of The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. Holston and Jordan will reflect on their professional careers and share with us what they believe to be the invaluable decisions and characteristics that have contributed to their professional success and personal happiness. In addition, they will discuss their personal and organizational efforts to enhance the diversity of the profession and what they are looking for from us, as future leaders of the profession, with respect to diversity and inclusion. Drawing from their decades of practice, Holston and Jordan will provide insights on leadership for LCLD Fellows Alumni, Fellows, Pathfinders, and Mentors.

About the Speakers

 

Michael J. Holston is Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Merck. In addition to the Office of General Counsel, he oversees the Company's Global Security and Global Safety & the Environment organizations, and is a member of Merck's Executive Committees.

Before joining Merck, Holston served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Board Secretary for the Hewlett-Packard Company. Prior to his role with Hewlett-Packard, Holston was a partner in the litigation practice at Morgan Lewis and Bockius LLP. Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Holston practiced at Drinker, Biddle & Reath LLP from 1993-2005. From 1990 through 1993, Holston served as a prosecutor in the Department of Justice. 

Holston has a J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and a B.S.M.E. from the University of Notre Dame. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar, a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, and a member of the American Law Institute. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Innocence Project and Equal Justice Works. Holston is an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.


Gregory B. Jordan is Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Administrative Officer of The PNC Financial Services Group.

Jordan joined PNC in 2013. He is responsible for overseeing all of the legal functions for the corporation and leads PNC's relationship with the government, including its regulatory affairs, regulatory policy, and government affairs operations. In February 2016, he was named to the additional role of Chief Administrative Officer where he oversees PNC's Corporate Ethics Office, The PNC Foundation, Community Affairs, the Office of the Regional Presidents, and Corporate Communications.

Prior to joining PNC, Jordan was the Global Managing Partner of Reed Smith LLP, and Chairman of the Senior Management Team and Executive Committee. During his thirteen-year tenure as managing partner, Reed Smith LLP completed a series of combinations in Europe, California, New York, Chicago, the Middle East, and Asia, to become one of the largest firms in the world, with more than $1 billion in revenue and 1,800 lawyers in 25 offices. 

Jordan obtained his bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from Bethany College in 1981. He graduated in 1984, cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review and the Order of the Coif. In addition, the University of Pittsburgh named Jordan a Legacy Laureate and presented him with a 225 Medallion--the university's two highest alumni awards. Jordan is a member of the Pennsylvania and West Virginia Bars.

Jordan manages numerous civic responsibilities. He serves as a board member of Highmark Health and Highmark, Inc; the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Center for Capital Markets Competitiveness; the Manchester Bidwell Corporation; and the Extra Mile Education Fund. He is a member of the advisory board for Global Business Coalition on Education and is chairman of the board of trustees of Bethany College. In addition, Jordan is the PNC observer of the board of directors of BlackRock, Inc.


Joseph K. West is a Partner in Duane Morris’ Trial Practice Group; serves on the firm’s Partners Board, and as the firm’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer. In previous roles, he was President and CEO of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association; Associate General Counsel-Global Outside Counsel Management at Walmart Stores, Inc.; Assistant General Counsel in the Litigation Group of Entergy Corporation; and in private practice. He was also an adjunct professor of trial advocacy at Tulane Law School. He earned his B.A. from Southern University and J.D. from Tulane Law School.
