In 2016, BASF launched its BASF Outside Counsel Diversity Program. Using a Diversity Scorecard driven by data analytics, the Program fosters transparency and increases diversity in BASF’s outside legal teams. 

Using this data-driven approach, BASF saw these gains in diversity, advancement, and work performed by diverse lawyers between 2017 and 2020:

  • The number of diverse relationship partners doubled.

  • Representation of attorneys of color and women on firmwide leadership committees increased.

  • The share of work performed by partners of color and women partners increased.

  • The share of work performed by women associates and associates of color increased.
