I, Dee Katz, personally commit to the following:

Personal Commitment

  • As Managing Partner of the firm, I will lead by example and show, through my words and actions, that I wholeheartedly support our firm’s commitment to be a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace;
  • I will be a driving force behind demonstrating that everyone in the firm, regardless of their position or length of service, feels they can voice their concerns or opinions regarding diversity and inclusivity and that they will be heard;
  • I will regularly engage with and support the efforts of the firm’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee to further ensure that everyone understands our commitment to fairness and equality among all members of our community;
  • I will ensure that discussion of the firm’s efforts and measurement of results relating to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will be included as agenda items at regularly scheduled Steering Committee, management, and practice group meetings;
  • I will discuss openly the importance of addressing systemic inequalities and will participate in and promote a variety of DEI trainings at the firm; and
  • I will engage with and support the hiring efforts of the firm to attract diverse talent at all levels.

Organizational Commitment

  • Improve our office makeup to include individuals from as many distinct backgrounds and identities as possible, through targeted recruiting practices;
  • Advocate within the legal community to increase the visibility of, provide additional support to, and celebrate the accomplishments of attorneys from marginalized backgrounds;
  • Create formal and informal mentorship and allyship opportunities for all of the firm’s attorneys;
  • Center the firm’s culture on acclimation, rather than assimilation, to continue to build a strong Walsworth community;
  • Continue to build relationships with, and support, formal and informal organizations representing the needs of marginalized communities;
  • Ensure our core values of diversity and inclusion are a daily part of the Walsworth community at all levels;
  • Prioritize the firm’s pro bono work with organizations including Public Counsel and Food from the Bar to support underrepresented and underprivileged communities across California;
  • Improve transparency in appointment processes for leadership positions within the firm to ensure that opportunities for growth are available to all qualified members;
  • Diligently track our hiring process, demographic composition, and appointment processes to achieve Mansfield Rule certification by March 2023; and
  • Continue to meet or exceed the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) standards to maintain compliance and recertification as a certified Women’s Business Enterprise.
