Ivan Fong
Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary — Medtronic, Inc.
I, Ivan Fong, personally commit to the following:
Personal Commitments
- I will take concrete steps to lead and strengthen our inclusion, diversity, and equity (ID&E) efforts globally within the Medtronic Legal function, including by expanding and clarifying the structure of our ID&E Committee; sponsoring, supporting and advocating for a 2022-23 ID&E strategic plan; and driving actions and outcomes in the areas of recruiting, development and retention of talent from diverse backgrounds.
- I will actively support Medtronic’s Global Inclusion, Diversity and Equity function, including by engaging in Quarterly Diversity Reviews with the CEO and the Executive Committee, serving as executive sponsor of an employee resource group or diversity network (to be determined), and actively supporting the Asian Impact at Medtronic (AIM) diversity network.
- I will continue to lead and support the Twin Cities Legal D&I Data Project by providing, annually, disaggregated demographic data on our Minnesota-based lawyers for publication, thereby allowing for a more transparent view of our journey as we strive to increase ID&E in our department and in the Twin Cities legal community.
- I will continue supporting data and transparency efforts of the Minnesota Coalition of Bar Associations of Color to collectively improve the legal profession and access to justice in Minnesota.
Organizational Commitments
- The Medtronic Mission powers our continuing push to ID&E, reflecting a commitment to remove barriers to opportunity at Medtronic, to lifesaving technologies around the world, and to opportunity for brighter futures for the members of our communities.
- The Medtronic Legal function will prepare and publish an ID&E report in 2023, highlighting the vision, programs, goals, data, successes, and opportunities of our 2022 global ID&E efforts.
- The Medtronic Legal function will review and launch challenging diversity metrics for our Medtronic Preferred Provider Program (MP3) firms and publish the results in our 2023 ID&E report.
- The Medtronic Legal function will develop and conduct a formal ID&E maturity model survey in 2022 and publish the results in our 2023 ID&E report.
- The Medtronic Legal function will continue to sponsor inclusion and psychological safety programs, to encourage a culture of openness, candor and belonging; promote an environment where everyone contributes, is appreciated and is comfortable speaking up; and provide resources to support mental health and well-being.
