Personal Commitment:
- Emphasize diversity, equity and inclusion within our firm.
- Actively participate in LCLD.
- Hold partners, associates and staff accountable for demonstrating decency and respect in interactions with colleagues and clients.
- Promote greater equity throughout firm, including in work assignments, hiring, and compensation.
- Meet quarterly with attorneys from diverse backgrounds to discuss their experiences within our firm, and ask each individual to come to the meeting with a recommendation for how the firm could improve.
Organizational Commitment:
- Develop a diversity pipeline program, including partnering with affinity groups at law schools and hiring at lease one 1L LCLD Scholar.
- Continue to recruit and hire diverse attorneys and commit to recruiting from a wide range of law schools, including HBCUs.
- Communicate to our professional and personal networks about the firm’s diversity initiatives.
- Continue to build a mentorship program to assist associates with career development, networking, and personal business development.
- Celebrate diverse heritages, cultures, and religious practices.
- Develop links with clients to promote diversity, equity and inclusion, including partnering on diverse summer fellowships/programming and pro bono matters.
- Host bi-annual facilitated dialogues amongst all firm leadership, attorneys and professional staffregarding diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Use BHB’s Impact Project to identify and address historical wrongs affecting disenfranchised groups, including African Americans.
- Partner with ACLU in public records act project to enforce California’s Racial Justice Act.
