I, Susan Hintze, personally commit to the following:
Personal Commitment
- Use my voice as a leader in my organization, and in the profession, to support DE&I initiatives in the legal profession, in privacy professional associations, in our law schools, and in our community.
- Lead by example by hiring, fostering, and maintaining a diverse team of lawyers including those in leadership roles, and developing our firm leadership pipeline to include diverse lawyers, particularly from underrepresented backgrounds.
- Use my position as our firm leader to examine hiring, evaluation, and promotion practices to determine how they support or prohibit progress, and work to implement interventions to remove barriers accordingly.
- Regularly meet with, and encourage other firm leaders to meet with, diverse talent at all levels within and outside the firm to provide communications aimed at fostering inclusion and mentoring to support them on their career path.
- Participate in, collaborate with, and donate to pro bono efforts, diversity and equity organizations, and other volunteer activities, and publicly speak on topics advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Regularly meet with clients (including LCLD member clients) and professional associations to find opportunities to partner and collaborate to advance our respective diversity efforts as well as the careers of diverse lawyers within our respective organizations.
- Have an open-door policy to engage with underrepresented groups to listen to their perspectives and experiences, and to support programs like our Diverse Perspectives in the Law Series and Book Clubs that explore similar issues.
- Host a LCLD Leadership Lunch and annual gatherings with our current and former LCLD Pathfinders.
Organization Commitment
- Foster an inclusive environment where our lawyers feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work.
- Cultivate mentorship, coaching, and training programs for our diverse team of lawyers to strengthen substantive learning and develop professional skills to help them advance at the firm and find success in client development, support, and relations.
- Provide programs within our organization that provide education and awareness regarding diverse populations, issues, and perspectives.
- Encourage and provide financial backing for participation in pro bono and community volunteer activities and affinity groups and associations advancing supporting DEI initiatives.
- Encourage our partners to participate in diversity recruitment including identifying diverse lateral partners, associates, and privacy analysts and by working to expand the schools and networks that we typically recruit from for our internship and externship programs.
- Develop policies and practices that respect and advance our diversity and inclusion goals and foster an environment that aligns with the same.
- Ensure that diversity and inclusion is on the agenda at the highest levels of partnership discussions and meetings and firmwide gatherings.
