LCLD Welcomes the 2013 Class of 1L LCLD Scholars!

85 LCLD Member organizations have made a commitment to host at least one 1L LCLD Scholar this summer. To date, 156 1L Scholars have registered to attend the third annual 1L LCLD Scholars Retreat, which will be held June 17-19, 2013 in Denver, CO. The program will include speakers, panelists, and several opportunities for our Scholars to network and socialize. A preview of the agenda has been posted here. Mid-Year Meeting and Webinar on Building Competitive Teams: A Look At Implicit Bias

LCLD Members and guests gathered in San Francisco on Friday, May 3, 2013 for a presentation by UCLA Law School Professor Jerry Kang on Building Competitive Teams: A Look at Implicit Bias. The 30 in-person attendees in San Francisco were joined by hundreds of webcast viewers, including 220 individuals and more than 50 groups around the country. Following the presentation, LCLD Members Randy Oppenheimer, Partner at O'Melveny & Myers; Mike Montoya, Assistant General Counsel at Southern California Edison Company; and Mary Francis, Chief Corporate Counsel at Chevron Corporation, participated in a panel discussion with Professor Kang, moderated by LCLD Executive Director Robert Grey.

If you were not able to join us, a recording of the presentation will be available at a later date. More information on this option will follow in the weeks ahead.


2013 Fellows Announced in The National Law Journal and The American Lawyer

The April 22, 2013 issue of The National Law Journal and the May 2013 issue of The American Lawyer magazine each featured an announcement that listed the names of 2013 LCLD Fellows and their respective nominating organizations. Fellows Program Alumni Enjoyed Networking in San Francisco During the 2013 LCLD Fellows Alumni Retreat

More than 75 Fellow Alumni from the classes of 2011 and 2012 came together May 9-12, 2013 in San Francisco for the 2013 LCLD Fellows Alumni Retreat. The reunion weekend included an inspirational speech from Congresswoman Jackie Speier, several networking opportunities, and strategic planning sessions on how Fellows will continue to be a part of LCLD's growth and development. Fellow Alumni also enjoyed a live interview of John Chen, former CEO of Sybase and current Board Member of Wells Fargo & Company and The Walt Disney Company, by 2011 Fellow John Cu; as well as an interview of Bill Neukom, former Managing General Partner of the San Francisco Giants and current Board Member of the Pacific Council on International Policy, by 2011 FellowKamran Khan.

We would like to specifically recognize John Cu for his commitment and leadership in chairing the retreat. John worked tirelessly to schedule speakers, organize outings, manage logistics, and solicit sponsors. John also took the lead during the event as the Master of Ceremonies.
