The Procter & Gamble Company to Host LCLD Fellows Learning Experience
By George Leal, 2013 LCLD Fellow

The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G), an LCLD Member corporation, and Dinsmore & Shohl, an LCLD Member firm, will host more than 30 LCLD Fellows from the Class of 2013 at their Cincinnati headquarters October 21-22, 2013. The event will kick off October 21 with a welcome dinner at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and opening remarks from Steve Jemison, former Chief Legal Officer of P&G. The dinner at the Freedom Center will be followed by a networking cocktail reception hosted by Frost Brown Todd, an LCLD Member firm, at the Christian Moerlein Lager House.

The following day, the event will feature a discussion with Deborah Majoras, Chief Legal Officer of P&G and Talent Development Committee Chair for LCLD, and fireside chats with Mark Biegger, Chief Human Resources Officer, and Libby Rutherford, Vice President and General Counsel, Global Compliance and Global Go-To-Market. The Fellows will also have the benefit of two panel discussions: one among Marc Pritchard, Chief Brand Building Officer; Ken Patel, Vice President and General Counsel Global Commerce; and Jodi Allen, Vice President-US Operations and Marketing, North America; and another among Joe Heyd, Associate General Counsel-Director-Global Litigation, and external attorneys from Dinsmore and Frost Brown. The topics of discussion include unconventional leadership; P&G's perspective on leadership, talent development, and diversity contributions; and leaders' expectations of counsel, both in-house and external. Additionally, the Fellows will be treated to a tour of the P&G Archives to learn about the history of The Procter & Gamble Company.

Host a Fellows Leadership Lunch in 2014

In 2012, LCLD's Partnerships & Teams Committee launched the Leadership Lunch program. A Leadership Lunch is a unique opportunity for LCLD Fellows to interact with law firm and corporate LCLD Members in a small group setting over lunch (or breakfast). The objective is to provide an opportunity for one General Counsel and one Managing Partner to share their personal journeys, as well as insight into how diversity is managed in their organizations, with the LCLD Fellows.

We would like to extend an invitation to Members to participate in a Leadership Lunch in your region in 2014. In addition to providing an opportunity to assist in the professional development of LCLD Fellows, Leadership Lunches facilitate new relationships between the participating General Counsel and Managing Partner.

We anticipate that participation in a Leadership Lunch would require no more than one hour of advance preparation and no more than two hours of time on the day of the event. If you would like to participate in a Leadership Lunch in your region, please email Louise Bald.

LCLD Fellows Community Service Month
LCLD Fellows across the nation will gather together and give back to their communities the entire month of November. Led by Fellows Regional Committee Chair and 2012 LCLD Fellow, Aja Sae-Kung, members of the Fellows Regional Committee have been charged with organizing a local toy or canned food drive in each of the seven LCLD Fellows regions. A healthy competition will take place among the Fellows as each region tries to collect the most food and toys. Regional Committee members have their work cut out for them, but the end result will be worth it. Families across the nation will have more food and toys this holiday season thanks to the efforts of the LCLD Fellows.

Several LCLD Fellows worked together to make the inaugural LCLD Fellows Community Service Month idea into a reality. The masterminds behind the idea were Vanessa Allen Sutherland, 2011 LCLD Fellow, and Catalina Vergara, 2012 LCLD Fellow. They presented the idea to Fellows Alumni on a conference call, who engaged in subsequent conference calls to plan the service month as an initiative for Fellows to bond, increase awareness of LCLD, and give back to their communities. Ron Sia, 2012 LCLD Fellow and Chair of the Fellows Alumni Outreach Committee, led the Outreach Committee to help the organizers hone in on the details of the initiative. Sia's committee also came up with the canned food drive and toy drive idea.

Stay tuned and please be sure to check the Fellows website for updates and progress on this nationwide event! Read full article.
