October 21-22, 2013
Cincinnati, OH

On two absolutely beautiful October days in Cincinnati, a group of LCLD Fellows from the 2011, 2012 and 2013 classes met for an outstanding Learning Experience hosted by The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G).

Lessons in leadership, diversity, community service, and career development were emphasized as the Fellows were given an in-depth look at how P&G emerged from a candle and soap company in 1837 to the multi-billion dollar household brand that exists today.

On October 21, the program started with pivotal lessons about history, perseverance, survival, and justice as Fellows toured the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center at a dinner and cocktail reception hosted by Dinsmore & Shohl LLP and Frost Brown Todd LLC. The tour highlighted both the cruel, inhumane nature of slavery and the unimaginable courage that men and women took to gain freedom and recognition as citizens.

The highlight of the dinner was an inspirational speech from Steve Jemison, who described the leadership traits that he utilized to rise from a P&G attorney in the Labor & Employment Group in 1981 to the company’s Chief Legal Officer and Secretary in 2008. Now retired, Jemison remains a key figure in the Cincinnati community.

On October 22, P&G LCLD Fellows George Leal, Mark Charles, Autumn Kruse, and Ron Sia introduced their peers to the history, culture, and future of P&G through various presentations and panels. It was impressive to see the depth of each of the P&G lawyers' knowledge of the scientific product lineage and business operations.

Current P&G Chief Legal Officer Debbie Majoras captured everyone’s hearts and minds with the vivid story of her professional career and her lessons in leadership through humility.

Fellows also took a guided tour of the P&G archives.

Class of 2012 Fellows Richard Moore, Member, Frost Brown Todd LLC, and Marty Dunn, Partner and Diversity Committee Chair, Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, participated in an informative panel with P&G Director and Associate General Counsel, Global Litigation Joe Heyd regarding strategies to empower diverse attorneys to become successful both as in-house and outside counsel.

The day ended with the distribution of a bag full of P&G’s latest and greatest products to keep you and your household clean and fresh!

LCLD and the 2011, 2012, and 2013 Fellows thank Deborah Majoras, the Procter & Gamble Company, Dinsmore & Shohl, and Frost Brown Todd for hosting this memorable experience. Words cannot express the gratitude that we have for the P&G team that created this amazing program.
