Mentors Needed for Success in Law School Mentoring Program

 

The LCLD Success in Law School Mentoring Program is preparing for its fourth year of reaching diverse 1L law students around the country. Its goal is to ensure that talented law students receive the mentoring they need to maximize their potential, both during law school and afterward as they prepare for the bar exam and launch their careers.

Lawyers interested in serving as Mentors in the program for the upcoming academic year may register now through July 31, 2014. All attorneys employed by LCLD Member organizations are eligible to become Mentors. Click here to learn more.

LCLD's 2014 Scholars Meet in Dallas

 

Poised to supercharge their academic and professional careers, the 2014 Class of 1L LCLD Scholars gathered for the 4th annual Scholars Summit on June 5-7 in Dallas, Texas.

Over the two-day meeting, 150 Scholars (out of a class of 168), representing over 75 LCLD Member organizations, heard from a lineup of distinguished speakers and began to build networking and other valuable skills to get the most out of their summer internships at LCLD Member organizations.

Kicking off this year's meeting, LCLD Member organization Jones Day hosted a hundred Scholars for mock interviews, by attorneys from LCLD Member organizations Baker Botts, Husch Blackwell, Jackson Walker, Jones Day, Littler Mendelson, Vinson & Elkins, and Weil, Gotshal & Manges.

We thank Marianne Short, Chief Legal Officer of UnitedHealth Group, in advance for hosting an LCLD Fellows Learning Experience on June 17, 2014 at the UnitedHealth Group headquarters in Minnetonka, MN. The following three LCLD Members will be honored at the National Bar Association 89th Annual Convention, Fourth Annual African American Managing Partners & General Counsel Dinner on July 26 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, GA: 

 

Rick Palmore, Executive Vice President; General Counsel; Chief Compliance and Risk Management Officer, and Secretary at General Mills, and LCLD Founding Chair Emeritus, will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by John W. Daniels, Jr., Chairman Emeritus of Quarles & Brady LLP.

 

 

Teri McClure, Chief Legal, Communications, and Compliance Officer at UPS will be presented with the General Counsel of the Year Pathfinder Award by Teresa Roseborough, Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of The Home Depot.

 

 

Fred Nance, Regional Managing Partner (operating from the Cleveland office) at Squire Sanders, will be presented with the Managing Partner of the Year Pathfinder Award by Grace Speights, Managing Partner (DC office) of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP.


The National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL) will honor Robert J. Grey, Jr., Executive Director of LCLD and Partner at Hunton & Williams LLP, with the Lead by Example Award, and LCLD Member corporation Honeywell International, Inc. with the NAWL President's Award at the 2014 NAWL Annual Meeting & Awards Luncheon. Ivan Fong, LCLD Member, and Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs and General Counsel at 3M Company, was interviewed by Corporate Counsel about 3M's legal department, which was named one of four 2014 Best Legal Departments by the magazine.

 

Ivelisse Clausell, 2011 LCLD Fellow, and Senior Compliance Counsel & Privacy Officer at Otsuka America Pharmaceuticals, Inc., has been selected as a 2014 Latina Trailblazer by LatinoJustice PRLDEF. She will be honored at the Fifth Annual Latina Trailblazers Breakfast on June 19, 2014 at the Yale Club of New York in New York, NY.


Exelon Corporation, an LCLD Member organization, has named 11 banks, insurance companies, and professional services organizations to its fourth annual diversity and inclusion "honor roll." One of the honorees was LCLD Member corporation Towers Watson. From 2012 to 2013, the honor roll program has helped increase minority representation on insurance firm leadership teams serving Exelon by 75 percent.


LCLD Member organizations Littler Mendelson P.C. and Target Corporation were featured in a recent article about diversifying legal departments.

 


LCLD Member corporation Macy's, Inc. is honoring National Pride Month with its Pride + Joy campaign, which includes participation in 23 Pride parades across the country and special events in-store, through a returning partnership with the Human Rights Campaign. Read the press release here.
