As a reminder, we invite attorneys from LCLD Member organizations to help conduct mock interviews for approximately 180 students on Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 10 am to 4 pm CT. Attorneys may sign up to participate for all or a portion of this time in two-hour blocks (students will be scheduled every 30 minutes). The interviews will take place at the Dallas office of Jones Day, located at 2727 North Harwood Street.

Please sign up here by May 8, 2015 to participate.

The intent of these mock interviews is for the 1L Scholars to gain valuable practice and feedback in advance of On-Campus Interviews coming in the fall. The interviews are not meant to be a recruiting opportunity and should not be treated as such.

April has been a busy month for Fellows Leadership Lunches, including a unique "Leadership Lunch Plus" on April 13, hosted by LCLD Member Christian Campbell, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary, and Chief Franchise Policy Officer at Yum! Brands, Inc. (parent company of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell).

During the event, Greg Creed, CEO of Yum! Brands, offered several lessons on leadership. Then Campbell and his guests John Selent, Managing Partner of Dinsmore & Shohl LLP's Louisville office, and LCLD Member George Yund, Chief Executive Officer of Frost Brown Todd LLC, engaged the Fellows in conversation. Afterwards, the Fellows, Selent, and Yund participated in a unique personal branding exercise designed specifically for the event, and Fellows toured the Yum! Brands headquarters. Read the full article and view photos.

LCLD thanks Dawn Croft, 2014 Fellow from Yum! Brands, Campbell, Creed, Selent, Yund, and everyone else involved in reimagining the traditional Leadership Lunch format and making this special event possible.

Additionally, we'd like to thank LCLD Members Ellen Dwyer, Managing Partner at Crowell & Moring LLP, and LCLD Board Member; and John F. Schultz, Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at Hewlett-Packard Company, for speaking at a Leadership Lunch on April 8, hosted at Crowell & Moring in San Francisco, California. We also would like to thank Crowell & Moring for hosting a reception for all San Francisco area Fellows that evening.

In advance, we'd also like to thank Charlie Joseph, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. (Florida Blue), and Karen Walker, Executive Partner at the Holland & Knight Tallahassee office. They will speak at a Leadership Lunch on April 29, to be hosted at Holland & Knight in Jacksonville, Florida.

“There is no such thing as a dull day in this office,” said Kathryn Thomson, General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), as she welcomed a group of visiting LCLD Fellows to the department’s headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C.

With more than 55,000 employees and a $70 billion dollar budget, the DOT serves the American people by ensuring “a fast, safe, efficient, accessible, and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and enhances the quality of life, today and into the future.”

Exactly what that entails became clear as the day-long Learning Experience unfolded in a series of panel discussions with top DOT lawyers, moderated by 2011 LCLD Fellow Vanessa Allen Sutherland, Chief Counsel of the Department’s Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration.

Panelists described the myriad duties of the Department, outlined how diversity policy is integrated into the federal workplace, and reflected on the contrast between working in private practice and public service. Read the full article and view photos.
