Register Your 2015 1L Scholars Today

Thanks to you, 95 Member organizations will be hosting 1L LCLD Scholars to participate in internships this summer!
We're looking forward to our largest ever group of 1L Scholars joining us at the 2015 1L LCLD Scholars Summit, May 28-30, 2015 in Dallas, Texas.
The deadline to submit your 1L Scholars' information is May 1, 2015--the sooner, the better.
The summit will be held at the W Dallas-Victory hotel; you may reserve rooms for your Scholars here. Additional rooms have been reserved as overflow at Le Méridien Dallas, The Stoneleigh; you may reserve those here. Please note that our group rate expires Monday, May 18, 2015 for both hotels.

Attorney Mock Interviewers Still Needed for Scholars Summit

As a reminder, we invite attorneys from LCLD Member organizations to help conduct mock interviews for approximately 180 students on Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 10 am to 4 pm CT. Attorneys may sign up to participate for all or a portion of this time in two-hour blocks (students will be scheduled every 30 minutes). The interviews will take place at the Dallas office of Jones Day, located at 2727 North Harwood Street.
Please sign up here by May 8, 2015 to participate.
The intent of these mock interviews is for the 1L Scholars to gain valuable practice and feedback in advance of On-Campus Interviews coming in the fall. The interviews are not meant to be a recruiting opportunity and should not be treated as such.

Yum! Brands Hosts Unique "Leadership Lunch Plus" Event

April has been a busy month for Fellows Leadership Lunches, including a unique "Leadership Lunch Plus" on April 13, hosted by LCLD Member Christian Campbell, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary, and Chief Franchise Policy Officer at Yum! Brands, Inc. (parent company of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell).
During the event, Greg Creed, CEO of Yum! Brands, offered several lessons on leadership. Then Campbell and his guests John Selent, Managing Partner of Dinsmore & Shohl LLP's Louisville office, and LCLD Member George Yund, Chief Executive Officer of Frost Brown Todd LLC, engaged the Fellows in conversation. Afterwards, the Fellows, Selent, and Yund participated in a unique personal branding exercise designed specifically for the event, and Fellows toured the Yum! Brands headquarters. Fellows Visit the U.S. Department of Transportation

“There is no such thing as a dull day in this office,” said Kathryn Thomson, General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), as she welcomed a group of visiting LCLD Fellows to the department’s headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C.
With more than 55,000 employees and a $70 billion dollar budget, the DOT serves the American people by ensuring “a fast, safe, efficient, accessible, and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and enhances the quality of life, today and into the future.”
Exactly what that entails became clear as the day-long Learning Experience unfolded in a series of panel discussions with top DOT lawyers, moderated by 2011 LCLD Fellow Vanessa Allen Sutherland, Chief Counsel of the Department’s Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration.
Panelists described the myriad duties of the Department, outlined how diversity policy is integrated into the federal workplace, and reflected on the contrast between working in private practice and public service. Read the full article and view photos.
