April has been a busy month for Fellows Leadership Lunches, including a unique "Leadership Lunch Plus" on April 13, hosted by LCLD Member Christian Campbell, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary, and Chief Franchise Policy Officer at Yum! Brands, Inc.

Campbell welcomed more than a dozen Fellows to the Louisville, Kentucky headquarters of Yum! Brands, which is the parent company of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell.

Campbell introduced Greg Creed, CEO of Yum! Brands (pictured below), who offered several lessons on leadership. 

He encouraged Fellows to put their team first: “The customer experience will never exceed the team member experience—how well you treat your team determines how well they treat the customer.”

Creed also noted a shift in the mindset of society, as today’s customers and employees “seek value in values.” Driving profits in a values-driven market requires leaders to embody three qualities, he said:

• Intelligence. A necessary but not solely sufficient quality. 
• Empathy. Leaders must have heart, and build personal connections with the people they lead. This requires them to be vulnerable, and to admit their shortcomings. 
• Courage. Leaders must be bold enough to stand up for their values, and embrace change. As an example, Creed cited Yum! Brands’ refusal to segregate its restaurants during apartheid in South Africa.

During lunch, Campbell and his guests, John Selent, Managing Partner of Dinsmore & Shohl LLP's Louisville office (an LCLD Member firm), and LCLD Member George Yund, Chief Executive Officer of Frost Brown Todd LLC, engaged the Fellows in conversation, each taking a slightly different approach to their advice on leadership.

Afterwards, the Fellows, Selent, and Yund participated in a unique personal branding exercise designed specifically for the event by James Fripp, Senior Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Yum! Brands, Marty Dunn, Partner at Dinsmore & Shohl, and Kim Amrine, Member and Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Frost Brown Todd.

Later, the Fellows toured Yum! Brands headquarters and attended a reception, where they had the opportunity to network with other attorneys from the company's legal department.
