New Faces at LCLD

Joe Slay, Strategic Initiatives Director
joe.slay@slaycommunications.com

Joe has worked with LCLD since 2009, primarily in the areas of strategic planning and communications. In January 2017, he assumed the role of Director of Strategic Initiatives with a focus on supporting the Fellows Alumni and on developing LCLD's regionalism strategy. A former journalist, Joe founded and led an award-winning public relations firm for many years. He is co-founder and chair of the nonprofit FightSMA, which has raised more than $8 million to support research at 45 universities in five countries to defeat the childhood neuromuscular disease, spinal muscular atrophy.

Erin Hess, Strategic Initiatives Program Manager
ehess@lcldnet.com

Erin will be coordinating LCLD strategic initiatives, including the development of the LCLD Fellows Alumni Strategic Plan and the LCLD Diversity Professionals Forum. She started her career in the corporate litigation group at a large law firm, but spent most of her career prior to LCLD working in various roles with the Court of Appeals of Virginia. She learned about LCLD several years ago and was impressed with its focus on providing programming and resources to Members instead of just talk; she knew then that she wanted to work for LCLD! Erin grew up in a tiny coastal town 30 miles from the nearest traffic light, and 60 miles from a McDonald's, Wal-Mart, or Target.
