5. A Long-Lost Manuscript Contains a Searing Eyewitness Account of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921

On this day in 1921, a racial massacre destroyed Tulsa, Oklahoma’s “Black Wall Street.” The eyewitness account of lawyer Buck Colbert Franklin brought the little-known to the national stage, and is now housed in the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
