More than 200 LCLD Fellows Alumni welcomed the Class of 2016 to their ranks in early June, during a three-day, high-energy Leadership Symposium in midtown Manhattan hosted by a cluster of LCLD Member organizations including Microsoft; Steptoe & Johnson; Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer; Proskauer Rose; Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton; and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.
Organized by the Leadership Symposium Committee, the event began, as always, with a local community service project supported by the Alumni. This year, at the offices of Steptoe & Johnson, the Alumni met with several dozen scholars from the Eagle Academy for Young Men in Brooklyn (right), coaching them on the finer points of networking and business relationships.
The Alumni also raised more than $12,000 to support the Eagle Academy's scholarship fund—a total that included contributions from all classes of Alumni and a personal matching grant from LCLD Founding Chair Rick Palmore.
The Symposium itself was one part Alumni business meeting and three parts professional development, as incoming officers of the Fellows Alumni addressed the membership, followed by a full agenda of speakers, both Alumni and industry experts including general counsel (above, from left: Kathy Card Beckles of JPMorgan Chase; Kate Adams of Honeywell; Ricardo Anzaldua of MetLife; and Michele Mayes of the NY Public Library, a founding board member of LCLD).
Over two days, the Symposium covered relevant topics ranging from the national campaign for gay marriage, to the legal complexities of professional baseball, to the nature of leadership itself.
Capping the event was a farewell reception, during which John Cu of Hanson Bridgett (right) and Cassandra Headrick of Travelers accepted the 2017 Rick Palmore Award in recognition of their service to others. For more on the honorees, click here.
