Women and minorities are often slow to step forward and highlight their accomplishments. Yet doing so, especially during the self-evaluation process, is essential to advancing your career.
So says Monica Blacker, founder of BAX Advisors, LLC., who brought that message to nearly 100 Fellows Alumni and invited guests through her presentation, "Bragging Rights: Acing your Self-Evaluation," a two-hour talk on October 22 focused on helping women and minorities advance in their careers.
Blacker addressed two dozen Fellows Alumni and other LCLD stakeholders live in Houston, with about 70 more at viewing parties across the country. She explained how to make the evaluation process more efficient and constructive for both employee and reviewer. She also shared real-world action steps to help draft self-evaluations more effectively, claiming credit in a professionally appropriate way.
Blacker knows from experience: She spent 22 years practicing as a business workout and reorganization attorney. During her climb to partner in an international law firm, she observed the many pitfalls and obstacles that sidetrack careers, and, if unresolved, can cause women and minorities to leave their jobs.
Armed with personal experiences, stories, and anecdotes from many of her colleagues, Monica has become a passionate advocate for minorities and women and an expert on topics designed to make the road to success run smoother.
