Two classes of LCLD Fellows met last week at the InterContinental Miami hotel in Miami, FL, where the Class of 2019, during its third and final meeting, welcomed the Class of 2020 to its inaugural LCLD event.

During the concurrent meetings, LCLD President Robert Grey (below, left) interviewed LCLD Member Stephen Zack (below, right), of Boies Schiller Flexner LLP, about his distinguished 40-year career. Both classes of Fellows also had the opportunity to ask questions.

The 2019 Fellows participated in substantive sessions focused on overcoming career obstacles, leading diverse teams, and creating a plan for coping with stress. The 2019 Fellows also enjoyed a networking activity all over Miami, and heard from members of the LCLD Alumni Executive Council on how to stay involved. The 2019 Fellows are now part of the LCLD Alumni, an organization that has grown to nearly 2,000 members since the Fellows Program was launched in 2011.

Of the record-setting 361 Fellows in the Class of 2020, 336 attended the meeting in Miami. In addition to the interview with Grey and Zack, they participated in substantive sessions about managing up, career resilience, overcoming imposter syndrome, and working across generational differences. They also received networking opportunities through an Accountability Partner Exercise and the joint 2019 and 2020 Fellows Welcome Reception.

Fellows Program Manager Nichole Velasquez also announced that the Class of 2020 will participate in a new regional meeting pilot this summer. Responding to the rapid growth of LCLD Membership and increased demand for the Fellows Program, the regional meetings will provide additional opportunities to build relationships between the Fellows' three full-class meetings.

Regional meetings will be hosted by LCLD Member law firms Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP on August 11, 2020 in San Francisco, CA; Sullivan & Worcester LLP on September 1, 2020 in Washington, D.C.; and DLA Piper US LLP on September 9, 2020 in Chicago, IL. These smaller, day-long meetings will provide additional professional-development programming and further strengthen the relationship-building aspect of the Fellows Program that participants and organizations value so much.
