Welcome to the Fellows Weekly Announcements

Dear Fellows,

Wow, what a difference a week makes!  Reality for many of us has altered dramatically in the last seven days.  All of us are working in unprecedented times and I’m sure it’s creating just a little anxiety for most of us.  For me, I am used to working remotely, but usually without the backdrop of three rambunctious children (is there any other kind?).  And my worries center less around the health of my immediate family, but to those whose very livelihood will be impacted by the immediate closure of so many places.  Will my daughter’s bus driver have a way to pay his bills over the next month?  How will the boutiques in old Ellicott City, who have barely recovered from devastating floods, survive losing business again for weeks on end?  How will this period of social distancing affect the mental health of the millions of people already suffering with depression and anxiety?

I know I am not the only one with these thoughts, and THAT is what gives me the audaciousness to hope—to hope that so many people thinking of others will bring out compassion, empathy, and kindness in communities around the nation. There is no community that better exemplifies these qualities than the LCLD community.  I have always been in awe of the professional accomplishments of this group, but it is the personal connections I have made, and that I have seen you make with each other, that fills me with the knowledge we will all be looking out for one another. We are also seeing LCLD Member Corporations at the forefront of decisions to protect the health and well-being of their workers and the general public.  Because of you, we will be okay.

So check in on each other.  Blow up the GroupMe chat (I’m looking at you 2018s).  Send a text to your neighbor.  Wash your hands.  And share resources.  I’m not just talking about TP, but all the wonderful resources your organizations are putting out there to help businesses and individuals cope with COVID-19.  To that end, if your organization has produced any materials that you would like to share with the LCLD community, please send them to me.  We will continue to share these and other relevant resources in the Fellows newsletter over the coming weeks.

To get started, here is a resource that I received from one of our speakers, Paula Davis-Laack Founder of the Stress and Resilience Institute, one from our friends at Deloitte, and links to two webinars from Mary Abbajay's company, Careerstone Group:

Rest assured that the Fellows newsletter will continue to be published every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. EST.  The LCLD Richmond office is closed so that the staff can be home, but we are all working remotely.  Please continue to send personal announcements and job postings.  And next week I will be announcing some big changes to the look and function of this newsletter.  Stay tuned.

Be well,

Nichole
