Teach Associates Business Development Skills

When leaders at Fisher & Phillips LLP found that some of the firm’s most promising associates were at risk of not making partner, the Atlanta office started the Associate Business Coaching program. The program clarifies the expectations and offers guidance on achieving partnership.

“It’s a very intentional way to guide people through the evolution from summer clerk to fully functioning first-year partner with more business than they can service on their own,” explained Atlanta Managing Partner Bert Brannen.

At the program’s start in 2011, the eight associates tapped for participation billed a combined $334,000 for their own business; by 2014, their billing jumped to $2.5 million. Four of the eight associates have made partner and two went in-house and are now Fisher & Phillips clients.
