Poised to supercharge their academic and professional careers, the 2014 Class of 1L LCLD Scholars gathered for the 4th annual Scholars Summit on June 5-7 in Dallas, Texas.
Over the two-day meeting, 150 1L Scholars (out of a class of 168), representing over 75 LCLD Member organizations, heard from a lineup of distinguished speakers and began to build networking and other valuable skills to get the most out of their summer internships at LCLD Member organizations.
Kicking off this year's meeting, LCLD Member Jones Day hosted a hundred Scholars for mock interviews, conducted by attorneys from LCLD Members Baker Botts, Husch Blackwell, Jackson Walker, Jones Day, Littler Mendelson, Vinson & Elkins, and Weil, Gotshal & Manges.
Other highlights included small-group mentoring sessions with LCLD Fellows, programs on branding and generational diversity, and a keynote address by Michael-Bryant Hicks, Senior VP/General Counsel of the Providence Service Corporation and a 2013 LCLD Fellow.
Launched in 2011 with an inaugural class of 56 Scholars, the 1L Scholars program has grown in size and/or impact every year. With the addition of this year's class, a total of 546 Scholars have benefited from the program.
This year also saw LCLD Members partnering to make "summer secondment" opportunities available to selected Scholars, enabling them to get a taste of life at both a law firm and a corporation.
