2014 Fellow Mareesa Frederick was named a Rising Star in Washington, DC by The National Law Journal

EVENTS OF INTEREST 

ABA PHARMACEUTICAL AND MEDICAL DEVICE SEMINAR - AUSTIN, TX:  October 9th

Please join the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Subcommittees of the ABA Products Liability Committee for this year’s 2014 Regional Pharmaceutical and Medical Device CLE Seminar on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Norton Rose Fulbright in Austin, Texas.  The seminar will feature panels that provide insight on understanding and presenting complex medical issues to juries, regulation of genetic testing, clinical trial litigation, amendments to the federal rules, and litigation in the midst of product recalls.  For added interest and continuity, the “theme” of this year’s seminar involves diabetes, one of the most pervasive diseases in the country.  The panel topics, however, are relevant to any in-house or outside counsel representing drug and device manufacturers.  Registration is free for in-house counsel.

2013 Fellow Caroline Tinsley is co-chairing the Seminar.  2011 Fellow Marcos Barbosa is moderating a panel on Navigating Through Potential Landmines While Managing Litigation Concerning Live Products and 2013 Fellow Bonnie Lau is moderating a panel on Litigating Product Liability Cases During and After a Recall  Also, 2013 Fellow Cari Wint will be speaking on a panel regarding clinical trial issues.

DIVERSITY NETWORKING MCLE EVENT:  SAN FRANCISCO, CA - October 29th

On October 29, 2014, from 5PM until 8 PM, the Bar Association of San Francisco and Duane Morris LLP will co-host a citywide diversity networking event at the Duane Morris LLP San Francisco Office located at One Market, Spear Street Tower, 22nd Floor, San Francisco, California 94105.

The program has received certification from the State Bar of California to provide 1.0 hour of Elimination of Bias MCLE Credit and 0.5 hours of General MCLE Credit to attendees who are members of the California Bar.   The program will include a networking reception from 5PM until 6PM with delicious appetizers and drinks, and a substantive panel discussion from 6PM until 7:30PM. Attendees will be able to ask the panel questions from 7:30PM until 8PM.

The panel will address issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, and sexual identity in the legal profession and our wider community. Yolanda Jackson, Interim Executive Director and Diversity Director of the Bar Association of San Francisco, will give a keynote address regarding diversity immediately before the panel discussion.  The panelists will include the following:

CORPORATE COUNSEL INTENSIVE INSTITUTE - BOULDER, CO:  January 5-6, 2015

The University of Colorado Law School will host the first-ever Corporate Counsel Intensive Institute (CCII) January 5-9, 2015, at the Wolf Law Building in Boulder, Colorado.
